About Mezguri

Mezguri is a very small village in Assam, and a rice-growing one: paddy is the main crop by far. It falls in the Kumarikata gram panchayat and the Nagrijuli block, in Tamulpur district.

The village school goes up to Class 8 and has a good playground. For Classes 9 and 10, students go on to Kumarikata Higher Secondary School or Kawli High School. A new model school building has been sanctioned for the village, and the survey for it has begun.

There is a sub-centre, which an ASHA worker visits every Wednesday, and an Anganwadi centre. A privately owned pharmacy in the village keeps the everyday medicines, and for further treatment people go to the government hospital at Kumarikata. There is also a PDS shop, a daily bazar and a weekly haat. The nearest neighbours are Pukhuripar, Panbari, Khairabari and Nabingaon.

The Matanga River runs nearby, with a proper bridge across it. Its water is mostly clean, except when it floods.

Places this small rarely get written down. That is what this site is for.
